What you'll work on.
Day-to-day you will architect and build production web applications across the Next.js / Node / Postgres / WordPress-headless stack we default to. You will set performance budgets at the start of every project and refuse pull requests that exceed them. You will spend roughly 30% of your time writing code, 30% reviewing, 20% in client-facing conversation and 20% on internal tooling and runbooks. You will not be on Zoom for 8 hours a day.
You probably are:
- A senior engineer with 8+ years of production experience across both front-end and back-end work.
- Comfortable making architecture decisions in writing, defending them, and changing your mind when you're wrong.
- Genuinely good at code review — the kind that improves the code and the reviewee, simultaneously.
- Able to talk to non-engineers about engineering trade-offs without being condescending.
- Comfortable taking the lead on a project from kickoff to launch without a project manager covering for you.
You probably are not:
- An "engineering manager" looking to escape coding — most of this role is hands-on.
- Someone who needs a brief written by someone else before they can start work.
- Specialised in one frontend framework to the exclusion of others.
- Looking for a place to spend three hours a day in standups.
Compensation.
£[STAT: 90–120k] base depending on experience, plus meaningful equity for everyone running engagements end-to-end, plus standard UK benefits (pension, paid time off, health). We don't do performance bonuses tied to billable hours; we do annual reviews tied to whether the work you led delivered.
